The New Energy is a branded documentary series where visionary First Nations leaders reflect on their relationship with FortisBC through a uniquely Indigenous lens. Each short documentary travels to communities across BC to explore how new and innovative business initiatives are working to benefit the Indigenous economy, people, and culture. The New Energy is hosted by acclaimed Squamish/Haida/Cree actor Simon Baker who visits Indigenous leaders to examine a wide range of economic, energy, housing, and cultural projects they are pursuing. Beginning at home, where the Squamish Nations’ environmental stewardship is working to protect their land and water, Simon examines the Osoyoos Indian Band’s investment in EV charging stations, and Yaqan Nukiy’s mission to reduce home energy costs Three new episodes are slated to release early 2024. The New Energy takes an authentic look at economic reconciliation and provides a path for how industry can engage in more respectful, fair and equitable relationships with Indigenous communities across Canada.
