Over the last 18 months, RealWorld has had the privilege of documenting a historic initiative taking place in Manitoba. ‘The Collaborative Leadership Initiative’ is bringing together, for the first time, elected Indigenous Chiefs and Manitoba Mayors to participate in a formal process to reconcile the past and find common ground to collaborate on new economic and environmental initiatives. In partnership with the Centre of Indigenous Environmental Resources, the Southern Chiefs’ Organization and the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region, the leaders are working together to overcome racism and stereotypes that have strained government to government and people to people relationships in the past. While their process is ongoing through 2020, RealWorld recently completed “150 Years in the Making”, a 43 minute documentary that tells the story of the Collaborative Leadership Initiative. You can watch the documentary here and learn more about this historic initiative at www.collaborativeleaders.ca.
